Neutrosophic Cognitive Map for assessing microbial influence on cognition and mood
Main Article Content
Abstract
Major depressive disorder is one of the most disabling mental disorders worldwide. Recent research has highlighted the association between changes in the composition and function of the gut microbiota, known as dysbiosis, and the development and progression of depression by influencing the gut-brain axis. Dysbiosis, although involved in the pathogenesis of depression, also presents therapeutic opportunities. In this review, the relationship between dysbiosis and depression is examined, as well as the interactions between antidepressant drugs and microbiota. Furthermore, the potential advantages of microbiota-targeted therapies, such as dietary interventions, fecal transplantation, probiotics, prebiotics, and postbiotics, are explored. The present research aims to develop a method for the assessment of microbial influence on cognition and mood. This emerging focus on microbial research points towards new directions for the clinical treatment and understanding of depression.
