Abstract

The objective of this work was to develop a neutrosophic method for the in vitro evaluation of the effect produced by the chlorination of swimming pool water with high and neutral pH on superficial dental enamel, evaluating it through the micro-hardness test. This research proposes a neutrosophic method for the evaluation of the effect of chlorination of swimming pool water in Quito. A comparative analysis between high and neutral pH on superficial dental enamel is developed, in vitro study. From the estimation, an experimental study was carried out using 23 permanent pieces and obtaining 45 specimens, divided into three groups. A group of 15 specimens was exposed to pool water with a pH of 5, another group of 15 specimens to pool water with a pH of 7, both for 60 hours and the last group corresponds to the control group. As a result, no statistically significant difference was found in the microhardness of the superficial enamel in the group subjected to pool water of 7, compared to the control group; however, in the sample exposed to pool water of 5.5 we did find a significant difference. As conclusions we find the pH of 7 in a pool is an adequate pH; while the pool with pH 5 was harmful to the superficial dental enamel, signifcantly reducing its superficial microhardness in permanent pieces after an exposure of 60 hours.
