Abstract

One of the essential water-soluble vitamins with the greatest relevance for the human body is ascorbic acid or vitamin C. Although it can be ingested with food, due to its multiple functions, the supply has increased significantly in recent years. and application of megadoses of this vitamin as a panacea that offers treatment against a wide variety of diseases. This has generated divided opinions on the benefits, risks, incorrect application and mechanism of action compared to the use of high doses of vitamin C for different therapeutic purposes. For all these reasons, the objective of this work was to develop a method to control the panacea of megadoses of vitamin C and the possible complications of its use without medical supervision. Despite some promising results, the report of serious damage when exceeding the recommended dose and divided opinions on the real effectiveness of these treatments are notable. Further research is still required on the mechanism of action, safety and efficacy of the use of megadoses of ascorbic acid as a therapy for a wide variety of diseases.
