Research management as a variable to improve the quality of Higher Education in Ecuador

Abstract
The research process is one of the substantive functions of the university and it has a marked relevance in the improvement of academic quality. It collaborates in the solution of problems of the environment having as an effect to raise the standard of living of society. The present article aims to analyze the factors that give impulse to research management as the main variable in the evaluation models to assure the quality of Higher Education. For the execution of the study, a review of statistical data, figures from the rankings and the main sources of information from international journals was carried out. A methodology of documentary research was used and an approach to the problem with a questionnaire to university professors addressing the research activities they carry out. In synthesis, the impulse of the research position in Ecuador is significant, but it maintains structural problems in the execution of research management, which does not allow the effective transfer of knowledge to society.
