Method for monitoring the prevalence of malnutrition and physical activity in adolescents

Abstract

In the global context, there has been a notable increase in non-communicable diseases, which are closely linked to the nutritional status and physical activity levels of people, showing alarming figures of obesity, overweight and physical inactivity. This phenomenon has gained relevance given that in recent times a significant increase has been observed in the incidence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), responsible for more than 85% of premature deaths among people aged 25 to 69 years. Each year, it is estimated that around 41 million individuals worldwide die from NCDs. In order to address this problem, research was carried out to determine the prevalence of malnutrition and level of physical activity in adolescents. This study proposes the implementation of a method to control the prevalence of malnutrition and physical activity in adolescents. The results revealed that the prevalence of malnutrition reached 36%, with overweight being more common in women with an incidence of 29.4%. As for physical inactivity, it was identified that it affects 68% of the participants, being more frequent in the female sex. These findings underline the importance of promoting healthy eating habits and encouraging physical activity among adolescents to prevent and mitigate the risks associated with non-communicable diseases and their long-term complications.
