Abstract

The deficiencies in the selection of antibiotic regimens by dentists reflect a worrying situation for public health associated with the increased incidence of antibiotic resistance. The use of antibiotics with the narrowest antimicrobial spectrum is recommended to prevent resistance of microorganisms and reduce the incidence of toxicity and side effects. Clindamycin in cases of hypersensitivity to beta-lactams will be the second-choice antibiotic in severe odontogenic infections. The objective of this research is to develop a method for the control of profiles of misuse of clindamycin in dentistry. With this proposal we intend to identify the adequate use of clindamycin, establishing the duration of treatment to consider it as a therapeutic option.
