Abstract
The Code of Childhood and Adolescence in Ecuador establishes that parents have the obligation to provide food to their children until the age of 21, with the possibility of extending this period up to the age of 24 if the young people continue studying and cannot support themselves. In this context, the objective of this project is to analyze the figure of expiration of the right to alimony, identifying the needs of the children, in order to evaluate the viability of a possible legal reform that allows extending the age of the beneficiaries by modifying the figure of expiration. The present research aims to develop a method to evaluate the limit of the expiration of alimony in children who have not yet completed their studies. The results revealed that the majority prefer this extension, because at the age of 24 many young people have not yet completed their studies, thus detailing the importance of considering possible legal reforms that ensure the well-being of both the beneficiaries and the parents responsible for payment.
