Abstract
High blood pressure is the most important risk factor for cardiovascular disease, it is often associated with other risk factors such as dietary patterns, elevated blood lipids, obesity, smoking, diabetes mellitus, sedentary lifestyle and stress. There is a familial aggregation of hypertension in both women and men. It is estimated that the individual risk of hypertension is 2.5 times greater if one of the first-degree relatives is hypertensive and increases to almost 4 times if both first-degree relatives have hypertension. Poor diet in hypertensive patients shows that bad eating habits trigger arterial hypertension, which is a chronic increase in blood pressure with values equal to or greater than 140 mmHg systolic pressure and 90mmHg diastolic pressure.
