Neutrosophic method for the evaluation of the advance of penal populism in Ecuador
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study analyses the advance of penal populism in Ecuador, taking into account the latest rates of violence, the most recent constitutional reforms and the guidelines for the correct development of criminal policy. It seeks to contribute to an informed debate in academia on this crucial issue for public safety and justice in the country, at this time of social conjuncture in which penal populism has gained ground in Ecuador. The objective of this research is to develop a neutrosophic method for the evaluation of the advance of penal populism in Ecuador. It is characterized by legislative reforms that toughen penalties, expand the catalogue of crimes and restrict penitentiary benefits. Although these measures can generate a false sense of security in the population, they do not address the structural causes of criminality and, in many cases, have negative consequences on human rights and criminal recidivism.
